Zoomed right in (the map now zooms to 6,000 px a degree, from 800; people show from about 1,600), every ship has its people about its deck, seen from above: a hat (or hair) on a head, shoulders in their shirt's colour, legs in their trousers' colour showing as they walk, and a shadow. Where they can go is each ship art's layout.
Who's out: a big crew keeps three 8-hour watches, a third of the crew on deck at once, changing at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 by the ship's own clock (its longitude), the outgoing watch walking back in to the door as the next comes out. A crew of 8 or fewer works 14-hour days and turns in in turn round the clock, so the boat never stops and someone's always at the helm. The officer of the watch keeps to the bridge wings (the helm on a small boat); the rest wander the decks, stand looking over the side, and go to work: two at the bow and two at the stern with lines while the ship comes alongside, lies there its first and last moments and pulls out; an anchor watch at the windlass at the anchorage; and at the fishing grounds the gear: by the rods while trolling, a strike every 40 seconds or so (one fighting the fish with the rod bent and the line taut astern, one beside them with the gaff), at the net reel, at the trawl winches, or at a crabber's pot hauler with the rest carrying pots from it to the stacks and back.
Dock workers (the port's, in hard hats and hi-vis) stand at the bollards on the quay beside a ship coming alongside or pulling out, and through its stop a gang works its cargo along the quay beside it, as many as it needs (a container ship 2 more a tier, bulk carriers and livestock 1 more a tier, a tanker 2 at its manifold, car carriers 3 and up, reefers 3 and up, a fishing boat 1). The bollards are now drawn their real size beside them, and a ship's shadow is its hull's own outline.
Uniforms: every ship line dresses its captain and mates one way and its crew another, by default as it would at sea: container ships a white-shirted captain in a captain's cap and crew in hard hats and hi-vis orange; tankers crew in red coveralls; livestock carriers cowboy hats; crabbers orange oilskins and watch caps; fishing boats bucket hats; icebreakers pompom beanies; tugs and recovery boats a fisherman's cap for the skipper. The Uniforms page (the Ships screen's Uniforms button, or Uniform on a ship's Crew page, opening on its line) changes any line's captain or crew outfit: a hat from the 20 (the 12 the portraits had, and a fisherman's cap, flat cap, beret, bicorne, pompom beanie, fedora, pith helmet and conical hat, which the CEO and officers' portraits can wear too), a shirt from 18 colours and trousers from 13, each with a figure walking on the spot to show it and Default to put it back. A ship's officers' portraits wear their line's captain's hat. Saved with the company, set as a command in multiplayer.
