South of 60°S, ships wear twice as fast. The fuel check before leaving port and route ranges allow for it, so some long Antarctic legs within a ship's nominal range are refused ("too far for one tank").
Legs to or from a port south of 60°S (the Antarctic stations) pay +50%, and so earn +50% XP for the ship, the company and the hub where they're unloaded.
The route screen marks those legs "rough seas: +50% pay and XP, 2x wear".
